Day 1

Day 1

First day was a total success.

I slept 10 hours last night (still a little jet lagged though), and woke up extremely nervous. We walked to the Kennedy Center, which was only about a 10 minute walk, and arrived at our new studio. There are only 24 students in the program, so our studio was smaller than some expected, but still comparatively large. Ms. Farrell walked in. It was nerve racking, until she spoke. If I remember correctly, she started right off with a joke. That eased the tension that hung low and heavy in the room. We began class with about 2 easy combinations, but the steps only got more and more difficult from there. The way Ms. Farrell explained the combinations and corrections were amazing. She made the combinations appear so simple after she dissected it with us. She used understandable analogies when she corrected someone. Of course I messed up every step, but being in that environment was really inspiring, and I just loved hearing Ms. Farrell teach. I was so excited to go back to the hotel and write down all of her corrections. Lunch came and went. I was not feeling great at all during lunch. I thought I would throw up, but I also wanted to eat, plus I’m pretty congested (by the way, I got medicine for that just tonight). Once I danced again, I felt much better. The second class was pretty similar to the first. Most of the steps were different, and some were the same with a little twist. After classes, we took a shuttle to some grocery stores, so now we can start cooking for ourselves! I’m really excited about that. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
