01 Aug 5 Useful Dancer Hacks!
Hey Everyone!
Today, I thought I’d show you 5 facts/hacks that may be beneficial to your ballet career! Before I do, I want to remind all of you to comment on this page, or my Instagram, or Facebook with any blog suggestions you might have! Now here are 5 Dancer Hacks!
- At Lulu Lemon, if you’re a dance teacher, they’ll give you a discount on your purchases and other benefits!
I haven’t tried this yet, but a lot of my teachers have. Apparently, you can get major benefits by telling a Lulu Lemon employee that you’re a ballet teacher! This includes discounts on apparel,
2. Use coconut oil to remove makeup
I have been doing this for years now. I have really sensitive skin, and all those chemically makeup removers not only didn’t work but irritated my skin. My ballet teacher suggested coconut oil, and once I did, my face never felt irritated after wearing makeup! I can literally apply it directly on to my eye and I won’t feel a thing. Super natural, super effective.
3. If you’re in a show that requires many hairstyles (curly hair that’s down, then a slicked-back bun) bring an extension cord for all your hair tools and electronics chargers!
When I was in big productions as a little girl, I would bring my Nintendo DS, the charger, and a hair curler. I was always fighting for an outlet, but bringing an extension cord only requires one wall outlet!
4. Instead of an ice pack, use a sponge!
This is a good idea for small areas! Soak a sponge in water, add some essential oils (my favorite is lavender oil), and stick it in the freezer! You can put in on your feet, or your neck, or whatever swollen or sore spot you may have! It’s reusable and great for the environment!
5. To prevent “Ballerina Baldness”, take your hair out of its bun immediately after class, don’t wear your hair up to bed, and use fabric hair bands as often as possible!
When I was 13-14 years old, I had some legit Ballerina Baldness. My hairline probably receded a half an inch. This was due to constantly pulling my hair back super tight in the morning, leaving it in all day, and hairspring my hair every single day! You don’t need to do that! I took morning classes at my studio in Thousand Oaks, so I’d put my hair up, using only a hairbrush. After that class, I would take my hair down and put it into a very relaxed braid. Then I’d put it back up for my night classes, without hairspray, or slicking it back. For classes, your hair doesn’t need to be perfect. Don’t sacrifice your scalp for slick hair! At night, I’d braid it again and sleep in a braid or with my hair down. Because of how I kept my hair, it went back to normal very quickly!
